Large XL (Flat Bottom) Grain Storage Tanks
In the Ag market, MW Tank offers process tanks known as XL Grain
Storage Tanks. These flat bottom grain tanks are industrial process
tanks that run up to 200’ diameter with storage capacities up to
1.7 million bushels. XL Grain tanks are an economical choice when
compared to other types of quality containment including
field-welded and slip-form concrete.
The MW Grain Storage Tank Advantage:
- Bolted flanged panel (API) construction
- Bolted flat panel construction
- Baked-on factory coatings
- ISO 9000 quality system certified
- Designed for the specific codes applicable for your region
- Center discharge & off-center discharge designs available
- Side load-out designs
- Quick field installation by direct MW Tank crews
- Immediate mobilization available worldwide
- Field welded and bolted deck construction available
(Note: Under 105’ diameter, corrugated construction is
predominant in flat bottom grain storage tank applications.
Corrugated tanks reflect marginal design standards and light weight
construction. At best, corrugated is recognized as an inexpensive
cover for grain piles and is not considered a process tank (tank
designed for continuous throughput). At MW, we only offer process
designs that are based on certified design parameters as recognized
by IBC, UBC, ASCE, etc. We do not offer corrugated construction.)
Hopper Tanks & Meal Storage
MW Tank supplies special hopper bottom tanks for meal storage
applications. We offer meal tanks that provide reliable flow with
the benefits of low maintenance. Gravity, functional mass flow
hopper designs and selection of the correct type of discharge feeder
are the keys to low maintenance meal storage that works.
The MW Tank Advantage:
- Tank diameters range from 8’ – 38’ diameter (up to 100,000 cubic feet)
- Hopper slopes that range from 65-75 degrees
- Rectangular (chisel) discharge outlet
- Tanks are designed for mass flow product loads
- Tanks can be designed for functional mass flow discharge
- Feeders are designed to discharge product across the entire cross-section of the hopper outlet
- Specialized coating systems are utilized for flow promotion
- Material testing is available
An alternative design for meal storage utilizes a flat bottom
tank and a revolving screw or drag unloader. In this approach, a
mechanical unloader undercuts material across the base product zone
area. At MW Tank, we design these silos for mass flow loads and
off-center discharge. Based on the application, there are merits in
this approach with difficult to flow materials.
